On Tuesday, December 3rd, we were lucky to have Linda from Frank’s Pizzeria in Port Washington as our special guest. She shared her latke recipe and made enough latkes for each student to taste her magical latkes! One of her secrets is Yukon potatoes … more details you will have to grill your students for! It was a great way to share Hanukah with the whole school! What is your favorite latke recipe? Please post and share your thoughts!!
As a lot of you know, the holiday Hanukah has come around to winter 2012. RSNS is definitely prepared. Today we had latke making! But is the story of Hanukah about a bunch of people opening presents? No! A long time ago, the Jews were happy until the Greeks took over. They forced the Jews to pray to several gods instead of to the one holy God. The Jews refused to pray to idols, and the Greeks got mad and destroyed the temple. A very faithful Jew, Judah, was chosen to lead the army with his brother. It was a long war, but at the end, the Jews won. The Jews rebuilt the temple and lit the menorah. They thought only had enough oil for one night. But instead, it lasted for eight nights, and this is why we celebrate eight days of Hanukah. And that is the story of Hanuakh!
